Chief Accountant

Our client is a Ukrainian company in the agro and logistics sector that has been operating in the market for over 9 years. The main business is grain trading: the company purchases grain, organizes its transportation and export.

The company is currently actively developing logistics routes through Western Ukraine. In parallel, it is undergoing internal transformation: systematizing business processes, developing digital infrastructure, implementing Microsoft 365, Teams, Power BI and other tools. This is a good moment to join the company and build the accounting function the way you see fit.

Your role:

You will be responsible for the company's accounting and tax accounting as a whole: from the primary document to the close of the period and reporting. You will become the person that the CEO and finance function can rely on for management decisions. Foreign economic activity, VAT and budget reimbursement you will conduct independently, without constant CEO involvement.

Reporting to: CEO / head of financial function.

What you will do:

Accounting and period close

• Organize and control accounting of all operations: purchases, sales, logistics, inventory, fixed assets, settlements.

• Close the period monthly and annually in accordance with the calendar.

• Timely submit financial, tax and statistical reporting.

Foreign economic activity and export

• Fully support the export of agricultural products in accounting and tax accounting.

• Conduct currency operations, exchange rate differences, settlements with non-residents, monitor currency control deadlines.

• Interact with banks, customs brokers, auditors.

VAT and budget reimbursement

• Monitor tax credit and liability, registration of invoices/credit notes, process problematic transactions.

• Prepare and support applications for VAT budget reimbursement until the actual receipt of funds.

• Support desk and documentary inspections.

Mutual settlements and primary documents

• Monitor receivables and payables, advances, conduct reconciliations with suppliers, buyers and carriers.

• Build a system for controlling primary documents and establish requirements for them for operational divisions.

Team, processes, automation

• Organize the work of the accounting team, write regulations, ensure interchangeability.

• Be the owner of accounting methodology in BAS/1C: set tasks for automation, test changes.

• Provide the financial function with reliable data for management reporting.

What is important to us:

• Practical experience in accounting and tax accounting of foreign economic activity, including export operations.

• Real experience preparing for and conducting VAT budget reimbursement procedures.

• Deep knowledge of VAT and experience in tax inspections.

• Experience with currency operations and settlements with non-residents.

• Confident command of BAS/1C and Excel.

• Systemic thinking, attention to detail and understanding of the business process as a whole.

• Ability to make independent decisions and clearly explain risks to management.

It will be an advantage: Experience in grain trading or accounting for commodity operations.
